BAM! Because Art Matters
BAM! is the community and education outreach arm of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization that was formed to provide cultural enrichment through the arts for residents throughout the region. BAM! recognizes that a thriving art community contributes to the creative development, health benefits and overall improvement of the quality of life. We believe art education plays an essential role in developing young people’s minds and the lives of the elderly as well as those with special needs or at risk. BAM! reaches out to schools and residents of the region with meaningful art programs and encourages people to actively engage in the arts...Because Art Matters!
This year BAM! is partnering with several community social service organizations on unique art projects.
- A collaborative mural with teens from Montgomery County Youth Services is targeting key issues such as anger management, coping and teamwork.
- A second mural is designed to help children with issues related to physical abuse and neglect. This project with Children’s Safe Harbor provides a vehicle for children to express emotions in a therapeutic, creative, safe environment.
- Another mural with Montgomery County Women’s Center will address issues related to bullying, abuse and dysfunctional family environments.
- In the spring of 2012 a mural partnering with Interfaith will highlight the work of seniors in our community.
These and other mural projects will on public display at the new Community Art Gallery opening in September at The Woodlands Mall adjacent to the Food Court on the Second Level. We invite the public to come by and learn more about how art can heal, empower and enlighten our lives.
The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council created the Community Outreach program to promote the benefits of the presence of art in our lives and to encourage people to engage in the arts.
Non- profit organizations participate in The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival from providing volunteers to coordinating hands-on art activities for children and their parents. Our Charity Partners and Charity Beneficiaries receive a portion of the festival’s proceeds.
Each year children attending the festival (12 and under attend for free) have created art community projects which have been installed at local parks and businesses throughout the region.
The WWAC supports the belief that art nurtures the developing minds of young children as well as enriching the lives of adults. Some of the non-profit organizations we have partnered with include:
- The Woodlands Art League
- The Woodlands Children’s Museum
- The Woodlands Pavilion Partners
- Humane Society of Montgomery County
- Children’s Safe Harbor
- Montgomery County Women’s Center
- Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch
- The Pangea Network
- Houston Museum of Health & Science
- Houston Museum of Natural Science
- Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts
- Town Center Theatre
